How to prepare your Apple Watch
The clean way is to unpair, which backs it up and clears Activation Lock in one step:
- Keep the watch and its paired iPhone close together.
- Open the Watch app on the iPhone.
- Tap your watch at the top, then the info (i) button.
- Tap Unpair Apple Watch and confirm with your Apple Account password.
That removes Activation Lock automatically. If you already erased the watch directly, remove it from Find My at iCloud.com so the next owner can set it up. (Same idea as removing Find My from an iPhone.)
